Barbara R. Greenberg, founder and president, provides the strategic vision and organizational direction that has served many foundations in a wide range of areas, including children and youth, aging, food systems, education, health, community building, arts, and the environment. As a respected leader in philanthropy, Greenberg plans and facilitates meetings and retreats, designs strategic plans and grantmaking strategies, develops innovative local and national grant programs, and works extensively in collaboration with other funders across the country. Her clients range from individual donors to start-up foundations and those with billions in assets..
With over 25 years' experience, she has served in the private,
nonprofit and public sectors, in diverse roles including as an officer of
a major national financial services company, executive director of a
family foundation, and a board member of regional and national nonprofits.
Greenberg's award-winning corporate programs at The Travelers Companies
generated national recognition for their benefit to employees and
retirees. Her other experience includes serving as executive director for
a countywide nonprofit counseling center, consultant to city and state
governments, and compensation analyst for a major national
corporation.
Throughout her career Greenberg has played leadership roles in local and national grantmaker groups, including Community Food Funders, Philanthropy New York (formerly New York Regional Association of Grantmakers), and Grantmakers in Aging. She has
planned, moderated, and presented at numerous local, national, and
international conferences and foundation retreats, and has co-authored a
book on grantmaking trends published by the Foundation Center. She is
author of several texts describing how to develop a grantmaking strategy, published as part of a tool kit and on the website of Grantmakers in Aging.
Greenberg earned a B.A. cum laude in English Literature from Boston
University, and M.S.W. from the University of Connecticut, School of
Social Work in Hartford, Connecticut.

Jan Schwarz, philanthropic consultant, works with foundations
and corporate giving programs, some of which are national or regional in
scope, while others target specific local communities. Her contributions
include developing charitable mission statements, grantmaking guidelines and strategies; reviewing and
summarizing grant proposals; developing materials to communicate with
nonprofits and other foundations; designing and compiling results of
surveys; and planning and facilitating meetings for grantmaking staff,
board members and grantees.
Schwarz' personal commitment to improving communities through
professional and volunteer work is demonstrated in 35 years of
achievements in both the public and private sectors. Working with a
U.S.-based medical device manufacturer, over a ten-year period Schwarz
guided the development of a focused giving program and established the
policies and organizational framework for expanding the program into the
company's many communities. She created special initiatives that leveraged
company resources to benefit the communities and the image of the company.
She also managed community related public relations programs, product
donations, and employee volunteer projects.
Her background includes serving as public information officer, staff
trainer, and coordinator of volunteers for government organizations. She
has served on the boards of numerous nonprofits. With a talent for
facilitating mutually productive outcomes from project conception to
implementation, Schwarz offers Philanthropic Group clients an established
framework for effectively addressing grantmaking interest areas,
establishing efficient implementation strategies, and achieving high
impact relative to philanthropic initiatives.
